Hello and Welcome to Tummy And Twirls Blog!
Looking for vegetarian meals, eggless desserts and non-alcoholic drinks that can be easily made at home?
Look no more! ๐
Join me on my journey as I make various recipes that are practical, healthy, yummy and make your tummy happy.
Home-cooked recipes are simply the best. I have always believed that your kitchen is a sanctuary of love.
Once you start “creating” and “making” these recipes at home, you will find joy and everything you make would be purely out of love. The best part, you know exactly what’s going into your body when you make or create it yourself.
My Story
Growing up, I never really paid much attention to cooking or baking as I was either busy studying, going out with friends or just doing my own things.
I simply had the best time eating both my grandmother and motherโs cooked food everyday as they were AMAZING chefs!! Therefore, I never found a need at that point in time to learn this important life skill.
The fact that every single dish they made was soo tasty, I always enjoyed eating at home. Yeah, I do love going out and trying all kinds of restaurant food (just like the picture on the right!), but I would eventually get sick of them.
Struggles Faced
When I was a student studying in a foreign land, these were my struggles:
- Had to balance my time between cooking, studying and having a social life.
- Needed to understand how to create a budget and follow it.
- Took a long time to prepare meals as I was not used to the process.
The challenges continued even as an adult as I was trying to fit in healthier options that were practical, tasty and easy :
- Due to a hectic work schedule, there were times when I resorted to fast food that was not nutritious. Fast food was “fast” (duh) and readily available.
- Sometimes, frozen food was also a go-to option as it was as easy as dumping it in the oven. Least we realize the ingredients in such food that allows it to be preserved for so long is never good for our health if eaten too frequently.
- Didn’t quite understand much about nutrition, therefore, could not incorporate ingredients into meals that were actually beneficial for the mind, body and soul.
- My husband is a vegetarian therefore I needed to create recipes that were tasty whilst having a sufficient amount of protein, good fats, and all other nutrients whilst excluding the “meat”. He loves “soya” meat which is okay to be consumed once in a while but not a healthy option for the long term.
Why Tummy And Twirls Blog?
Having experienced both student and present adulting life, I want to help you in managing your meals including desserts, snacks and drinks by introducing recipes that are beneficial for all of you.
I believe many of you can relate to similar problems and struggles that I have mentioned above.
With the right guidance, it is never too late to experience creating these recipes in your very own home kitchen! I want to help you with my recipes be it you are a student or a working adult.
Refer to the tips below for making your own home cooked recipes
- Firstly, follow Tummy and Twirls blog, your very own electronic recipe book which is all experimented, edited and ready for you to follow. All the recipes include the number of ingredients and the step by step on how to make them, alongside pictures. Fun fact – I created a physical recipe notebook where I wrote down all my grandmother’s and mother’s recipes before this blog was created. Over the years, I also experimented by improvising on recipes learned from observing other people around me.
- Be aware of the ingredients you are consuming. Try reading the labels of the food you are buying from the grocery store.
- Read more about nutrition to understand it better. I have incorporated whatever I know in my articles for your benefit too.
- Set aside time to prepare meals. Never rely on motivation, but rather focus on being disciplined with your schedule.
- Start incorporating a variety of vegetables into your dishes by enriching the flavor of the dishes. I truly believe the key to enjoying a meal is experimenting whilst sticking to healthier options. There is an abundance of herbs and spices in your very own kitchen to play around with.
- Write down notes on your phone on the prices of basic grocery items that you regularly buy – whenever they go on sale, stock up on them (as long as they don’t expire!)
- At times, you may prepare meals in bigger batches. I personally don’t mind eating the same food as I would alternate between a few types of meals. This allowed me some buffer during the week to take a break from the kitchen especially when I had a busy working or studying week schedule.
In a nutshell….
Tummy and Twirls blog shares recipes that were learned from the 2 most important women (my grandmother and mother) in my life and also recipes I have created along the way through experiments and research.
